How to Fix Curling Wallpaper
Wallpaper is used to cover and decorate the interior walls of homes, offices, and other buildings. It is sold in rolls and is secured to a wall using wallpaper paste. Wallpapers can come either paintable or with patterned graphics. However, one of the most common problems with wallpaper is curling ends. The older the paper gets, the stiffer it becomes which makes fixing curled wallpaper an occasionally difficult task. But there are some tricks to make the job easier.
Things You'll Need:
- Sponge
- Wallpaper paste
- Seam roller
- Brush
-
Step 1
Soften the curled wallpaper by repeatedly dampening it with a wet sponge every few minutes. Keep going until the edges lay flat. You do not wan to soak the walls, just get the paper damp enough so that the stiff edges flatten out.
-
Step 2
Mix the wallpaper paste per the manufacturer's instructions. Next, let it set for a couple minutes.
-
Step 3
Dry the area you are going to work on as best as possible with a dry sponge or towel. Then spread some paste on both the wall and the curled wallpaper itself. Use a brush and flat putty stick.
-
Step 4
Press the paper firmly in place. Go over it with a seam roller to ensure best adhesion. Do not press so hard all the paste leaks out.
-
Step 5
Clean any residual paste on the wall with a wet sponge. Finally, you should put something against the wallpaper to keep it from curling back up as the paste dries.
