If your Whirlpool clothes dryer tumbles the clothes but does not get warm, a failed heating element may be the culprit. Replacing the heating element is a common repair on any clothes dryer with an appreciable amount of regular use. This task is not challenging; all you need is a screwdriver and some basic mechanical skills.

1. Step 1

   Unplug the dryer from the wall and move it out away from the wall. Disconnect the dryer vent.

2. Step 2

   Remove four perimeter screws from the heater and thermostat access panel in the lower right corner of the back panel. Don't remove the two screws on the heater and thermostat access panel itself. Remove the access panel.

3. Step 3

   Remove the two screws from each thermostat bracket on the inside of the access panel removed in step 2. Disconnect the wires from both thermostats--the safety thermostat and the manual reset thermostat.

4. Step 4

   Remove the screw from the air intake cover on the lower left side of the back panel. Remove the cover.

5. Step 5

   Disconnect the heater and thermostat connector--the large, white, multi-pin connector behind the air intake cover.

6. Step 6

   Remove the two screws that hold the heating element bracket to the heater and thermostat access panel that was removed in step 2. Remove the bracket.

7. Step 7

   Remove the old heating elements and replace with new heating elements. Reverse the disassembly steps to reinstall all components removed during the process.
