How to Fix up an Old Desk

Did you find a great desk at a thrift store or garage sale that just needs a little love? Here is an easy and cheap way to spruce it up, and bring character into your home. All you need is a desk, some paint and creativity

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a great desk
  • rag
  • sandpaper
  • acrylic paint
  • roller/pan
  • brush (may need various sizes)
  • acrylic clear coat (sealer)
  1. Step 1

    Using a soft rag, wash with soapy water. Dry immediately.

  2. Step 2

    Lightly sand desk. Take off all hardware.

  3. Step 3

    Prime the desk. Usually primer is white. A gallon of white acrylic primer from your local home improvement store will do.

  4. Step 4

    Pick out color(s). Choosing two colors across from each other on the color wheel can add a dramatic effect. Depending on the size of your desk, usually a gallon of acrylic paint from your local home improvement store will do.

  5. Step 5

    Roll out large areas, then cut in with your brush.

  6. Step 6

    When the desk is dry, you can seal it with acrylic clear coat. This will prevent from peeling and allow for easy clean up.
