How to Do an Oil Change in Less Than 20 Minutes

For all you people who go to the shop and end up paying an arm and a leg to have your oil changed you can do it yourself. This ca be done very easily while the car is on the ground . If you do happen to own a small hydraulic jack, you are that much better off. Just follow these simple instructions and you will be done before you know it. And by doing it yourself you know it is done right. You don't have to worry about your drain plug not getting tightened properly which seems to be the biggest problem i have seen with oil change centers. Follow these few simple steps and your on your way for another 3000 miles.

Things You'll Need:

  • Step 1

First raise your car high enough to be able to get under to remove the oil drain plug. Put your oil drain pan under the oil pan then remove the drain plug.

  • Step 2

While the oil is draining you can remove the oil filter. Now we can install the new oil filter. This will give the old oil enough time to drain.

  • Step 3

After you have installed the new filter we can go back and install the drain plug. Remove the old oil and dispose of properly and lower the car.

  • Step 4

Next we want to add 4 quarts to start with. Start the car and let it circulate for a few minutes then shut the car off. Check your oil level then add what you need to bring it to a proper level.
