How to Touch Up Paint Chips
Scratches and paint chips are two common problems that most car owners have had to deal with at least once. There are many reasons that your car's paint job may be in need of a little freshening up. It could be because the guy parked next to you decided to open his car door without looking, or maybe you failed to hold on to the shopping cart as you loaded groceries into your car. No matter what caused the paint chips in your car, there is a way that you can get rid of them.
Things You'll Need:
- Touch-up paint
- 1,500-grit sandpaper
- Car wax or car polish
- Toothpicks
- Fine-tipped paintbrush
- Rubbing alcohol
- Cotton balls
Pick a touch-up paint color that matches your car perfectly.
-
Step 2
Wet a cotton ball with alcohol and clean the area around the paint chip to remove any dirt.
-
Step 3
Lightly sand the area where the paint is chipped to smooth it out.
-
Step 4
Shake the touch-up paint until it's thoroughly mixed.
-
Step 5
Dip the paintbrush into the touch-up paint and lightly dab the area where the paint is missing. If the chip is very small, use a toothpick instead of a paintbrush. Let the paint dry completely.
-
Step 6
Dip the sandpaper into a bucket of water to moisten it. Using a horizontal motion, lightly sand the area where you repaired the paint chip.
-
Step 7
Use a high-quality wax or polish to add shine to the area you painted.
