How to Fix My Computer From a Remote Place
Fixing a computer from a remote location is possible using either software or hardware. Not everything can be fixed from a remote location, but you will have a number of options to connect remotely to your computer. Some of them are compatible with any operating system, while others will allow only for a Windows-based PC
Things You'll Need:
- VNC software
- Remote PC subscription
- Network KVM
-
Step 1
Install a VNC (Virtual Network Computing) server on your computer. Set up a strong password during the installation of the server components to prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to your computer. If you are connecting over the Internet, configure your router to authorize VNC ports 5900 and 5901 so that the security on the router does not block your attempt to connect to the computer. If you have a personal firewall, you will need to authorize the VNC server you are running to communicate with the Internet or the local network.
-
Step 2
Subscribe to a remote computer service for your main computer. Install the provided software on your computer, and set up your account with a strong password. Check with the service provider you choose whether you need to open ports on your router or personal firewall, as they may be blocked.

Step 3
Install a network-based KVM. A KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) is a device that will allow you to take control of the computer as if you were in front of it, allowing you to diagnose it even if the computer has a network problem. Plug the KVM into the mouse, keyboard and video ports. Plug the KVM into the network. You will need a multiport router or a switch to connect both the computer and the KVM to the network so that both can access the Internet. Configure your Internet router to allow for the connection from the Internet to the KVM.
