How to Fix the Video Resolution Setting on Windows
When using Windows with other devices--such as projectors--it is sometimes necessary to adjust the resolution to make the monitor display fit correctly on the screen. One of the problems with this is that once the computer is unplugged from the projector, the display on the computer's desktop can have the wrong aspect ratio. The icons on the desktop as well as any of the other pages that are opened on the Internet or in Windows can appear to be much larger or much smaller than they should.
-
Step 1
Click "Start" on your Windows desktop. In Windows
Vista or Windows 7, the "Start" button is actually a Windows logo. Earlier versions of Windows have a button that says "Start." -
Step 2
Click on the "Control Panel" selection that is located on the right-hand side of the "Start" menu. "Control Panel" should be located somewhere toward the bottom of the menu.
-
Step 3
Select "Appearance and Personalization" from the next window that appears on screen. Clicking this selection will bring up a new window with an "Adjust screen resolution" option. Click on "Adjust screen resolution."
-
Step 4
Find "Resolution" on the next window that opens and click on the drop-down list next to it. A resolution slider will appear. Click on the slider with your mouse and hold the left mouse button to change the resolution settings. When you have adjusted the slider to the setting you want, click "Apply" in the lower right-hand corner of the page.
-
Step 5
Look at your desktop to see if the new resolution settings are to your liking. If they are, click "Keep." If you want to go back to the previous settings, select "Revert."
