If your cabinet doors have problematic action, are off kilter or have gaps, you can easily fix your cabinet door without having to replace the whole cabinet section. Follow the steps below.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • New hinges
  • Wood putty
  • Paint or varnish
  • Tack cloth
  • New screws
  • Wood glue
  1. Step 1

Replace old screws with new ones that are a bit longer to ensure the cabinet door is held firmly in place.

  2. Step 2

Replace the hinges with new hinges (use longer screws) to solve problems with the hinges.

  3. Step 3

If your cabinet door is off balance, unscrew the hinges and drill a clean hole where the existing holes are-put in a wooden dowel with wood glue, let dry then reinstall the cabinet.

  4. Step 4

You can add a latch system or self-closing hinges on your cabinet doors that won't stay closed.

  5. Step 5

Clean the surfaces then use some wood putty and paint to fix cracked, chipped or peeling cabinet doors. Repaint them all if you want, or choose a color matched to the existing color.
