How to Fix a Scratch on a Bamboo Floor

Because bamboo is a renewable resource, bamboo floors are becoming very popular, especially among the environmentally conscious. Bamboo comes in a wide variety of colors and styles, ranging from black to pale. Bamboo floors are just as durable as other types of flooring, but they will still get scratched and dinged. Repairing those blemishes, however, doesn't have to be a difficult process.Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* Surface filler epoxy
* Fine grit sand paper
* Lint free cloth
* Buffing cloth

1.
Step 1

Purchase surface filler at a hardware or home improvement store. These fillers can be matched to the color of the bamboo flooring, so bring in a leftover piece of the flooring if you have it to ensure a quality match. Or use a photograph as a guide.
2.
Step 2

If the scratch is less than an 1/8 of an inch deep, move on to Step 3. If the scratch is deeper than an 1/8 of an inch, sand the inside of the groove to roughen up the surface. This will enable the epoxy to better cling to the area.
3.
Step 3

Squeeze the epoxy filler into the scratch, making sure to run the epoxy the entire length of the scratch. Using a finger or a lint free cloth, smooth the epoxy so it is even with the top of the flooring. Let the epoxy dry as directed on the container.
4.
Step 4

Taking a soft cloth or buffer, go over the area until it has a smooth look and shine. Moving the cloth or buffing rag in a circular motion will produce the best results.
5.
Step 5

For deep gouges, you will need to apply a coat of polyurethane. Polyurethane typically comes in aerosol cans and can be sprayed on the scratched area of the Bamboo flooring. Allow the spray to dry two to three hours before walking on the area.
