3 Tips for Removing a Washer Agitator

If you need to remove your washer agitator, you may be curious about the proper method of disconnection. Fortunately, removing a washer agitator can be a very simple task, particularly if you incorporate the aid of this helpful set of tips.
Remove the Agitator's Cap
After making sure your washer is safely unplugged, you will need to locate your agitator's cap. The location of the cap is largely contingent upon the brand of washer you own, so be sure to consult the device's owner's manual to definitively determine where the cap can be found. These caps can often be removed without the aid of any tools, but once again, you will need to consult your owner's manual to determine the proper method of disconnection.
Remove the Translucent Cap
After your agitator's cap has been removed, you will find a translucent cap beneath it. With the aid of a pair of pliers, proceed to carefully remove this cap. Once this cap has been removed, you will see a 3/8-inch nut in the center of your washer agitator. Use a socket wrench to gently remove the nut. While doing this, take special care not to damage your agitator's dog ears.
Remove Your Agitator
Having made the preliminary disconnections, carefully remove your washer agitator. Many washer agitators can be removed with nothing more than your hands, but some many require additional measures. Consult your washer's owner's manual or the manufacturer's website to determine the proper method of disconnection.
