Electric Dryer Repair: How to Replace the Clothes Dryer Belt

Electric dryer repair is a common occurrence especially when it comes to replacing the clothes dryer belt. Carrying out repairs on your clothes dryer requires skill and proper knowledge of the working parts in a dryer. With the right tools and this set of instructions you will be able to replace the clothes dryer belt.
Tools and Materials Needed:
New belt
Screwdriver set
Step 1 – Buying a New Belt
Buy a new belt from an appliance store. Take the old belt as well as information about your dryer to find the exact match for your electric dryer.
Step 2 – Unplug the Machine
In order to replace your clothes dryer belt you have to unplug the machine and move it to a place where you will be able to work comfortably.

Step 3 – Remove the Fasteners
Remove the fasteners located at the top rear of the dryer or at the lint screen. Keep them aside safely as you will need this when you finish replacing the dryer belt.
Step 4 – Unplugging the Electric Wires
The wires that connect to the safety switch of the door have to be unplugged. You will find these wires at the front side of the dryer. Generally this task in made easy by simply unplugging the installed wire connector.
Step 5 – Open the Top of the Machine
Open the top of the machine, lift the top off and let it hinge at the back of the dryer. Be careful the wires do not snap.
Step 6 – Remove the Front Panel
Remove the front panel of the dryer and keep it aside. Now you will be able to remove the drum from the dryer.
Step 7 – Remove the Belt
Tilt the drum towards you by balance its weight against yourself and remove the old belt from the drum.
Step 8 – Placing the New Belt
Clean the drum rollers and the lint filter while the drum is removed. Examine the drum to find the slot where the old belt was wrapped and install the new belt in the same position and wrap it around. Slide the drum into the unit and place it back in position.
Step 9 – Tensioner and Pulley
Bend down and look under the drum and find the motor and the tensioner. Connect your belt through the pulley and tensioner; make sure that the traction grooves are in front of the pulley.
Step 10 – Placing the Front Cover
Place the front panel and let it drops into the latches, the bottom has to slide into position. Make sure the seals fit the drum properly.
Step 11 – Reconnect the Wires
Replace the top of the dryer and reconnect the wires you unplugged earlier. The snap locks and the fasteners must be placed and tightened properly. Slide the dryer back into its original potion and connect the vent ductwork.
Step 12 – Testing the Dryer
Connect the power supply cable and turn on the dryer and run the dryer to check if it is working properly.
