How to Swim Smoother and Faster

If you already know how to swim and would like to make some improvement, here's how. This is for novice swimmers

Things You'll Need:

  • A place to swim

 

Step 1

Keep your fingers and thumb together and slightly cup your hands. By keeping your fingers together your hand is more like a fin.

  • Step 2

    Slice through the water. Do not hit the water with your palm. Instead, slice the water with the edge of your hand. You should never splash the water when swimming.

  • Step 3

    Once your hand is in the water, turn it so you’re dragging more water along. Once more, you want to use your hand as a fin.

  • Step 4

    Bring your hand close to your body as you glide through the water. This causes your hands to help propel your body. Don't touch your torso, just bring each hand parallel to your body as close as you can.

  • Step 5

    Reach long. Stretch your hand as far as you can with each stroke.

  • Step 6

    Only kick underwater. Making a splash wastes your energy.
