How to Plan Freeze Dried Backpacking Food for a Week

Food is the biggest concern when planning for a week-long backpacking trip. Weight is the next biggest concern. That's where freeze dried food comes in. It's a lightweight and nutritious option to fresh food.

Step 1

Decide what you want to eat for the week. There are plenty of choices for every meal and dessert, including beef stew, bacon and eggs and cobbler.

    Visit your local sporting goods stores and shop the internet for what you want.

  • Step 3

    Pack your selections along with a lightweight pot, backpacking stove and two methods of purifying water. Most freeze dried foods require hot water to cook properly.
