Tips for Working with PVC Conduit
Submitted by jake on Mon, 12/28/2009 - 21:08PVC conduit is not something that most do-it-yourselfers come into contact with unless it’s being used in a plumbing situation, but that’s not to say that you won’t need to use it at some point for an electrical job, like delivering wire to a light post in your yard. Both uses are similar in function and installation, but it’s important to note that plumbing PVC is white and electrical PVC is gray.
But first, why should you use PVC Conduit?
Water Saver Toilet
Submitted by jake on Mon, 12/28/2009 - 21:07A water saver toilet is a toilet that uses less water than others. Every time you flush about six gallons of water are used to transfer the waste. For people with large families, this can be the cause of very large water bills. To help reduce the cost you can use a water saver toilet, which uses about half as much water.
Luckily you don’t have to buy an entire new toilet to make this work. All you need is a few bricks or a couple mason jars.

Tailpiece
Submitted by jake on Mon, 12/28/2009 - 21:01In plumbing, the tailpiece is the short piece of pipe between a fixture drain and a trap. The inlet tubes under a faucet that connects the faucet to the water supply lines are also called a tailpiece.
Materials Used in the Manufacturing of a Plumbing Tailpiece
The tailpiece can come in standard metals that are used for plumbing pipes, such as copper, steel ,or iron. Most often the tailpipe, if made of metal, will be a stainless steel, since it is often visible beneath a sink and any possibility of rust stains should be eliminated.

PVC Pipe
Submitted by jake on Mon, 12/28/2009 - 20:59PVC pipe, or Poly Vinyl Chloride pipe, is a relatively modern type of piping, used most often in drinking water systems, and other cold water installations. When there is a need for foodstuffs or ultra-pure liquids in manufacturing applications, PVC pipe or stainless steel pipe is usually used.
PVC pipe is plastic pipe and has been in use in the United States since the 1960’s, when it was first introduced. PVC pipe often replaces metal pipe in kitchens and bathrooms these days.

Closet Bend
Submitted by jake on Mon, 12/28/2009 - 20:57A closet bend is the curved section of the length of a drain pipe that is found just below the toilet. A closet bend is usually made in an elbow shape, allowing the exit flush of a toilet to go out at a 90 degree angle horizontally along the wall. The closet bend is attached to the waste pipe. It is the last fitting of a drainage system serving a toilet.
Closet bends in the past have been made out of lead, but nowadays closet bends are generally found to be constructed out of cast iron, steel or PVC pipe.
